Even with the best of jobs you go through periods where you simply do not want to work. You roll out of bed and you have absolutley no motivation to move, work, or even be a human for the day.
I thought when I started my own business I would wake up every single morning dancing around ready to write content and do all of the things. But when I hit my first… first of several… mornings that I woke up, sat in front of my computer, and rolled my eyes because nothing sounded fun, I knew that this happens to everyone. Don’t get me wrong, I have more days I wake up dancing around the room, but the lack of motivation hits the best of us too.
It doesn’t mean everything is failing, it doesn’t mean you’re “stuck,” it doesn’t even make you a bad person. It only makes you human. Our energy levels go up and down, and the more we respect the downs to get us back in the ups, the easier it will be to deal with those less motivated mornings.
Why do we lose our motivation?
Simply put… Because we’re human. But you’re looking for more than that here, right?! Since we are all beautiful humans, we hold a multitude of emotions. Sometimes we’re happy, sometimes we’re sad, sometimes we’re goofy, sometimes we’re mad… I unintentionally rhymed that…
With all of those brings seasons of us being inspired and seasons of us just looking to tune inward instead of being turned on in hustle mode.
When our body craves something, it basically screams at us until we pay attention to it.
Your lack of motivation is telling you something, it’s time to listen…
How to get over your lack of motivation
1 | Honor the phase
As I stated previously, we are multi-dimensional human beings, and it is a good thing. When we try to ignore or push aside some of the feelings and emotions that are coming up, we only create resistance which leads to frustration and overwhelm. Just be okay with this season moving through your life, and it will pass through easier.
2 | What are you surrounded by?
Have you been paying attention recently? Or have you been moving full speed ahead towards your amazing goals with no mind to what is going on under your nose?
If you’ve hit that lack of motivation in your life it may be time to do a quick inventory of what is surrounding you in your life.
Have your normal routines or rituals fallen onto the back burner?
Have you picked up any new comparison stations in your world? Meaning is there a space you find yourself spiraling into that makes you feel like you aren’t doing enough or you aren’t doing it right? Time to clear those out.
What are you immersing yourself in currently? [Podcasts, books, shows, music, what could you change here]
Everything in your internal and external reality is effecting how you feel. Manage your space for peace.
3 | Loosen up!
The best way to get out of your own head and to break the pattern of whatever energy you want to break is to get back in your body. Move that energy around, literally shake it out if you need to. Sometimes you just need to wake yourself up. Have a little bit of fun and forget about the pressure and stress of getting it all done for now.
Just live.
Then come back to your work with fresh eyes.
4 | Release
Sometimes when you are feeling lack of the juice that really gets you pumped up with inspiration you are simply having an energy clog. Something may be pulling on you and you aren’t giving yourself a chance to hear it. A lack of motivation could mean that you have a block that needs to come up. Allow yourself to release it. Ask yourself how you are doing. Tune the question inwards and see what comes up for you.
5 | Change your environment
My go to when lack of motivation hits… simply change it up. More of the same creates more of the same. Routines are great but if you are never switching up anything your body doesn’t want to create. Go inspire yourself! Whether that’s a simple walk around the block or leaving the house to work in a new coffee shop. Change your world up to change your thoughts.
6 | Do something.
Sometimes the only thing that will get us out of that lack of motivation is by TAKING ACTION!!! We get so stuck in doing nothing that we forget to do something… anything! Simply take step one, which surprisingly, leads into step two, which then just might lead into step four. And before you know it, you’ll have an entire task complete!
